PAINT TECHNICIAN (HVLP)
JOB DESCRIPTION
A custom production and fabrication shop is looking for an experienced finish painter and sprayer. The candidate will prepare surfaces for the application of commercial catalyzed finishes and water-based paints to parts and finished products. As the paint technician you will plan and assist with a full range of painting and finishing work including surface prep, paint and color selection, color matching, work area preparation, spraying, rolling, and brushing.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare wood, steel, aluminum, and plastic surfaces, including sanding, filling, caulking, taping and applying primer, paint and clear coat.

Remove old paint and repair surfaces for painting.

Mix various types of paint to specific ratios, formulas, and specifications.

Color match paint finishes to customer supplied samples and/or color specifications.

Select pre-mixed paints, mix portions of pigments, oil, and thinning/drying agents to achieve specific paint effects.

Thin paint to the proper consistency and viscosity for spraying, brushing, or rolling applications, and adjust equipment to obtain the correct paint finish.

Correctly apply paint and finishes to parts, ensuring color accuracy and quality control, while checking finishes for defects and inconsistencies.

Maintain paint supplies, equipment, and work area organization and cleanliness.

Perform quality control inspections upon completion of painting and finishing tasks.

Perform routine maintenance on equipment and spray booth.

Pickup and deliver painting supplies when necessary.

Work with management and staff to improve processes, efficiency, and product quality.

All staff may be required to perform duties outside their normal area of expertise to meet the goals of the company.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE

3+ years’ experience as a painter and finisher with a working knowledge of painting and finishing equipment, tools, and standard practices.

Experience working in a production and custom fabrication environment.

Extensive spray booth operation and maintenance experience.

Highly skilled ability to repair, prepare, sand, fill and tape wood, steel, aluminum, and plastic surfaces for a variety of finishes.

Identify, mix, prepare and apply catalyzed paints, finishes and water-based paints to components and finished products.

Ability to accurately identify, match and catalogue paint colors.

Able to stand for extended periods of time.

Able to lift to 75 lbs. throughout the workday.

Able to work an 8-hour day, 40 hours per week, and overtime as needed.
